LOCKPORT — You can sleep a lot easier thinking about the prospects for this fall’s Lockport High School football teams, thanks in part to this weekend’s unique Lions fundraiser on tap at LHS.

Locals can purchase new mattresses at wholesale prices between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. in the LHS “old gym” off of Locust Street, with proceeds benefiting the LHS football team.

“We’re trying to raise a little money to outfit the kids with personalized jerseys and a couple of new pieces of equipment,” said LHS varsity football head coach Greg Bronson.

“There will be significant savings, because buyers are getting wholesale prices. It’s a way to raise some money for our program, as well as provide an opportunity for the community to pick up a needed product at a good price.”

LHS football players and other students have been distributing fliers throughout the community this past week. Locals can look at mattresses on display in the old gym on Saturday. Orders could be delivered in as soon as a week, Bronson said.

The coach said he learned about the unique program from Frontier head football coach Richard Gray. Gray’s Buffalo neighbor, Tom McNamarra, started his company, Custom Fundraising Solutions, two years ago.

“We’ll have a number of mattresses and other items on display Saturday. People can try them, order them and they’ll be delivered in about a week,” Bronson said.

“CFS piloted the program in Cleveland successfully last year. We’re the first Western New York school to do this.”

All mattresses come with factory warranties. Varying sizes and styles will be available, from twin to king, as well as pillowtops, orthopedics and memory foams. Name brands include Simmons and Southerland. Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted, with all profits going directly to the LHS football team, Bronson added.
