North Tonawanda, NY — The North Tonawanda summer playground program is scheduled to begin next week, the city’s Department of Youth, Recreation and Parks announced.
Payne Park will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday beginning June 25, with a free lunch program served daily from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
A variety of activities will be offered at the park, including arts and crafts, sports, games, contests and water games. A weekly schedule of daily events will be available at the playground or at Memorial Pool in the lobby.
Special events will be held at the park beginning July 8 and are free and open to the public. The schedule is as follows: Reptile Man, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. July 8; make your own ice cream, 1 p.m. July 15; gold fish dive, 10 a.m. July 22; NT Amazing Race Scavenger Hunt, 1 p.m. July 29; rock wall, 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 5; water bikes at the canal, 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 12.
Arts and crafts attendants will be at Payne Park from 10 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday and at these playgrounds on the following days: Monday — Leah, 1:15 to 3 p.m. ; Tuesday — Remington, 1:15 to 3 p.m.; Wednesday — Payne Park, special events day, 1:15 to 3 p.m.; Thursday — Pinewoods, 1:15 to 3 p.m.; Friday — Wurlitzer, 1:15 to 3 p.m.
The weekly sports program at Wurlitzer Park will run from June 30 through Aug. 20, with different activities scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The program is free, and participants will receive prizes.
In addition, Pinewoods Play Days will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 6-10 and Aug. 3-7. Qualified attendants will be at Pinewoods Park for an all-day play day for children ages 5 to 13. Children should bring their own lunch.
Participants should pre-register at the Recreation Department or by calling 695-8520. The program is free, but children must stay for the whole four hours.
