Rodney Pierce had 16 points to lead four Bulls in double figures as the University at Buffalo men’s basketball team edged Toledo on the road Saturday, 65-59, for their first-ever win at Savagae Hall.
The Bulls scored the game’s final six points to pull away and improve to 12-9 overall and 5-5 in Mid-American Conference play. Calvin Betts and Max Boudreau each had 11 points for the Bulls. Mitchell Watt added 10.
Jordan Dressle had a game-high 19 for the Rockets (3-21, 0-10), who shot nearly 67 percent from 3-point range in the first half.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
UB 60, Central Michigan 52
The Bulls shot 50 percent from the floor in the first half while holding the Mid-American Conference’s third-best offense to just 25 points en route to the win at Alumni Arena. Kourtney Brown led the Bulls with 19 points and 14 rebounds, her 13th double-double of the season.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
UB 5, Cornell 2
The University at Buffalo won its second match in as many tries behind wins in first through fourth singles, plus first doubles. Denise Harijanto won at first doubles with Aleksandra Petrova and then won her singles match in straight sets.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Toledo 159, UB 135
The Bulls dropped their final meet of the season to finish 8-3 overall and 4-3 in MAC action. Prior to the meet, the Bulls honored the 10 seniors swimming their last meet in the Alumni Arena Natatorium, including Ashley Schaffert (Lockport) and Laura Powalski (Mount St. Mary).

Miller, Burns pace Bulls at Penn State
Local products Erin Miller (Lockport) and Jackie Burns (North Tonawanda) helped UB’s women’s team to a fifth-place finish at the Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup at Penn State. Miller took sixth in the shot put with a throw of 43-11.25 and seventh in the weight throw (52-7.25). Burns placed second in the 600 meters, clocking in at 1:34.50. Burns also was a part of UB’s third-place distance medley relay, which turned in a season-best and ECAC qualifying time of 11:46.55.
