HS ROUNDUP (Feb. 6): Jacks notch 10th NFL win

The season got even better Friday night for the North Tonawanda boys basketball team.

Aaron Davis’ 20 points and Lucas Pichette’s 14 helped the Lumberjacks score a 69-50 win over Lewiston-Porter. The win gave NT its 10th Niagara Frontier League victory this season. It’s NT’s first 10-win league campaign since 1999, when current head coach Erik O’Bryan was a first-year assistant.

Darrik Bloomfield added a dozen points and Joe Montesanti had 11 for the Lumberjacks (13-3 overall, 10-2 NFL), who used a 21-10 second-quarter edge to pull away.

Eddie Wilson had 16 points and 10 rebounds for Lew-Port (6-8 overall, 4-7 NFL), while Marc Morreale scored 13 and Alex Nowocien finished with 12.

North Tonawanda hosts a huge rematch with Niagara Falls on Tuesday. The Jacks handed NFHS its first-ever NFL loss, a 64-62 overtime decision at the Wolvearena on Jan. 12.

Grand Island 53, N-W 48

Jonas Stalyga scored 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Grand Island in the Niagara Frontier League matchup. Stalyga was 12-for-12 from the free throw line in the win. Bobby Ross added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Vikings (9-5 overall, 7-4 NFL). For Niagara-Wheatfield (2-13, 2-10), Kevin McTyere had 10 points and Shawn Haseley put in nine.

Junior Varsity

n Jack Mulcahy scored 12 points to lead N-W to a 36-33 win over GI. Dylan Kelly had 14 for the Vikings.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Lew-Port 40, NT 20

Kristine Ripson recorded a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, as the Lancers rolled to the Niagara Frontier League win. Nikki Mokhiber added seven points, 10 boards and five steals for Lew-Port (9-6 overall, 6-5 NFL), which led 15-0 after the first quarter. Kelsey DiFelice scored seven points for North Tonawanda (2-13, 1-11).

Roy-Hart 70, CSAT 28

Kim Harrington’s 13 points and 10 steals helped Roy-Hart up its record to 9-3 in the Niagara-Orleans League. Jenna Harrington added 10 points and 15 rebounds in the win. CSAT fell to 1-11.

Holy Angels 71, N. Catholic 35

Mary Cain had 23 points, 12 rebounds, eight steals and three blocks for Catholic in its Monsignor Martin loss. Jordin Puzan added four points for the Patriots, who fell to 6-10 overall and 1-5 in the league. Kristen Hall scored 25 points for the Angels (13-6, 5-5).

Junior Varsity

n Maggie Dorian had 12 points and Liz Gatto added eight as Lew-Port beat NT 36-22. Rachelle Judy scored 12 for the Lady Jacks.
