Seminar on safe paddling scheduled
A Paddle Smart seminar will be presented at 6:30 p.m. March 18 at Gander Mountain in BJ’s Plaza, Young Street, City of Tonawanda.
Sponsored by the Swiftwater Power Squadron, the cost is $25 and the two hour course will teach risks, paddle craft safety, how to select a paddle and equipment.
Seating is limited to 40.

Soup & Devotions set at TFMC
Tonawanda Free Methodist Church, 207 Grove St., City of Tonawanda, will host Soup & Devotions at 6 p.m. Wednesday with tomato corn soup featured.
Call 693-1199 if you plan to attend. Donation is $5 for adults, $4 for those age 60 and older, and free for children under age 10.

Find the pot of gold at museum
A scavenger hunt to find the pot of gold will be the St. Patrick’s Day special event from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum, 180 Thompson St., North Tonawanda.
Search, learn and be ready to kiss the Blarney Stone as you scour the museum for the leprechaun and his elusive pot of gold. Crafts, entertainment and costumed characters will be included.
Admission is $5. Coupons or free passes cannot be used for this event.

Band focus of PraiseSong
The Reverent Worship Band will be featured at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the PraiseSong night at Blessed Sacrament Church, 263 Claremont Ave., Town of Tonawanda.

Caregiver network program set
“Caregiver Rescue: Caring for Yourself and Others with Laughter” is being presented by Nancy Weil, certified laughter leader and director of Aftercare at Mount Calvary Cemetery, will take place from 8:30 to 10 a.m. March 23 at Schofield Residence Nursing Facility, 3333 Elmwood Ave., Kenmore.
Part of the Network with the Network program hosted by Network in Aging of Western New York and M&T; Bank, the event begins with breakfast followed by the program.
Tours of Schofield are available. Seating is limited.

New lupus patients invited to meeting
The Lupus Alliance of Upstate New York will host a new patient orientation meeting from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Lupus Alliance office, 3871 Harlem Road, Cheektowaga.
All newly diagnosed lupus patients, their families and friends are welcome. There will be books and current literature available as well as a video and time for questions. There is no charge for the program.
Veterans’ ‘Listening Circle’ scheduled
In an effort to meet the needs of local veterans, active military personnel and their loved ones, a series of “Listening Circles” will take place the second Wednesday of each month in the Wick Center at Daemen College, Amherst.
Sponsored by the Erie County Veterans Service Agency, the next meeting is at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
All are welcome.

Gregory Kinal will present a program on “Impact of the ’50s” at the 7 p.m. meeting Wednesday of the Historical Society of the Tonawandas in the community room at city hall, Niagara Street. The program will feature a look at the 1950s in America with images of everyday life, fads, political figures, dress styles and celebrities.

Job applications for City of Tonawanda residents interested in seasonal work are available in the city clerk’s office at city hall.
Positions include laborers, pool/playground attendants, lifeguards, park attendants and Gateway Harbor attendants.
Anyone interested in a seasonal laborer position and available full time by April 15 should return completed applications to the clerk’s office by March 31.
All other applications must be returned by April 15. All applicants must be residents of Tonawanda and at least 16 years old by June 1. -
