TONAWANDA

Library hosts children’s story times

City of Tonawanda library will host story times starting Feb. 22 at the library, 333 Main St.

Toddler Time for ages 2 to 3 with a caregiver will take place at 6:30 p.m. Mondays from Feb. 22 through May 17 and at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays from Feb. 23 through May 18.

Preschool story hour for children ages 3 to 5 with a caregiver, is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays from Feb. 25 through May 20.

Registration is required for each event and may be made by calling the library at 693-5043 or stop by in person.



Wurlitzer firm topic of men’s group

The Retired Men of the Tonawandas will meet at noon Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church at 149 Broad St., City of Tonawanda.

Doug Hershberger, former Wurlitzer employee will speak on the manufacture of Wurlitzer organ rolls. 

Bring a bag lunch, coffee and tea will be provided. All are welcome.



NORTH TONAWANDA

Tax preparation help available for seniors

Representatives of AARP will be at the North Tonawanda Senior Center every Friday in February and March to complete income tax forms for seniors age 50 and older.

The free program is sponsored by the AARP.

Third Ward auxiliary to meet

The Women’s Auxiliary of the Third Ward Social Club will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the club, 12th Avenue, North Tonawanda.



Martial arts topic of watch group

North Tonawanda Citizens On Patrol will meet for a seminar on martial arts at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 316 Thompson St., North Tonawanda.

Jim and Nina Wood of the Yi-Dan Cha Gi Martial Art Center will present the seminar to members of the Neighborhood Watch group following the business meeting.

All are encouraged to attend.



AREA

Nonprofit groups invited to program

A project management training and mentoring program will be presented Friday by the Project Management Institute Buffalo Chapter in collaboration with the United Way of Buffalo and Erie County

The program, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., is geared specifically for nonprofits and will take place at the UW office, 742 Delaware Ave., Buffalo.

The program will consist of training over a six-week period followed by regular mentoring sessions with a certified project manager.



Safe boating course scheduled

United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 33 Buffalo will present “About Boating Safely,” from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, 1395 George Urban Blvd., Cheektowaga.

The fee is $40, which includes a book, or $20 if sharing a book. The course meets the state education requirements for jet ski and personal water craft operation and qualifies youth ages 10 to 18 to legally operate conventional vessel along on state waters.

  • BULLETIN: Events published March 6, 2010 Gregory Kinal will present a program on “Impact of the ’50s” at the 7 p.m. meeting Wednesday of the Historical Society of the Tonawandas in the community room at city hall, Niagara Street. The program will feature a look at the 1950s in America with images of everyday life, fads, political figures, dress styles and celebrities.

  • BULLETIN: Events published March 5, 2010 Job applications for City of Tonawanda residents interested in seasonal work are available in the city clerk’s office at city hall.

    Positions include laborers, pool/playground attendants, lifeguards, park attendants and Gateway Harbor attendants.

    Anyone interested in a seasonal laborer position and available full time by April 15 should return completed applications to the clerk’s office by March 31.

    All other applications must be returned by April 15. All applicants must be residents of Tonawanda and at least 16 years old by June 1.

  • BULLETIN: Events published March 3, 2010 The Buffalo Society of Artists is bringing back its historic “Thumb Box Exhibition” which features small works by members of the society from Saturday through March 26 at Partners in Art Gallery, 74 Webster St., North Tonawanda.

    A reception from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday will open the show. All are invited.

    Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

    Tickets are $2. A $1 raffle ticket or a non-perishable food item for the YWCA food pantry buys a chance to win a movie poster.
