NORTH TONAWANDA

‘Haunted Harbor’ set at Gateway park

The sixth annual “Haunted Harbor” will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Gateway Harbor Park, featuring friendly characters in costume and a decorated park.

Costumes are encouraged. Some merchants are offering specials that evening.



Benefit helps family of Tony Foss

A memorial benefit for the family of Tony Foss will take place from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Sweeney Hose, 499 Zimmerman St., North Tonawanda.

Gift basket raffles, split raffles and door prizes will be featured.

Proceeds will be used to cover the expenses occurred from his death and as a trust for his four children.

Tickets are $25, available at the door. For more information or to purchase tickets, call Craig at 949-3073.



Democrats to meet at Dom Polski

North Tonawanda Democrats committee meeting is set at 8 p.m. Monday at Dom Polski, 576 Oliver St., North Tonawanda.

The public is invited.

Preventing falls focus of program

The Health Association of Niagara County will present an informative program on preventing falls at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the North Tonawanda Public Library, 505 Meadow Drive.

Unintentional falls are a common cause of nursing home admissions and the fifth leading cause of death for older adults. Participants can learn how most falls can be prevented by making changes to their environment, routine and behavior. There will be door prizes at this free event. No advance registration is required.

KMH offers driving insurance course

A state-certified, six-hour point and insurance reduction course will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Kenmore Mercy Hospital, 2950 Elmwood Ave., Kenmore.

MOMS Club schedule meeting

The MOMS Club of Kenmore/Tonawanda will meet from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday.

The club is open to moms with children of all ages who are residents of the Town and City of Tonawanda, Kenmore and Grand Island.

Barn dance planned at museum

A community barn dance will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Sanborn-Lewiston Farm Museum, 2660 Saunders Settlement Road, Sanborn.

Free admission.



‘Shopping spree’ planned at hall

The second annual “Shop Til You Drop” home party shopping spree will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Grand Island Knights of Columbus Hall, 1841 Whitehaven Road.

Concert will take place at church

A Christian contemporary music concert, “I Rest on His Unchanging Grace,” will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, 6630 Luther St., Niagara Falls.

The concert will be followed at 7:30 p.m. by a festival reformation service.

  • BULLETIN: Events published March 6, 2010 Gregory Kinal will present a program on “Impact of the ’50s” at the 7 p.m. meeting Wednesday of the Historical Society of the Tonawandas in the community room at city hall, Niagara Street. The program will feature a look at the 1950s in America with images of everyday life, fads, political figures, dress styles and celebrities.

  • BULLETIN: Events published March 5, 2010 Job applications for City of Tonawanda residents interested in seasonal work are available in the city clerk’s office at city hall.

    Positions include laborers, pool/playground attendants, lifeguards, park attendants and Gateway Harbor attendants.

    Anyone interested in a seasonal laborer position and available full time by April 15 should return completed applications to the clerk’s office by March 31.

    All other applications must be returned by April 15. All applicants must be residents of Tonawanda and at least 16 years old by June 1.

    A reception from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday will open the show. All are invited.

    Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

    Tickets are $2. A $1 raffle ticket or a non-perishable food item for the YWCA food pantry buys a chance to win a movie poster.
