TONAWANDA

Library hosts spooky stories fun

Spooky stories with Ann Marie Jason will be featured at 6:30 p.m. Thursday as part of the Family Fun series at the City of Tonawanda Public Library, 333 Main St.

Children ages 3 to 7 and their families are invited.

On Nov. 5, an evening of Arthur stories will be the program. Registration is required for the events and may be made in person or by calling 693-5043.



‘House of Mirth’ topic of reading club

Swiftwater Reading Club will discuss “House of Mirth” by Richard Russo at 11 a.m. Thursday at the City of Tonawanda Library, 333 Main St.

NORTH TONAWANDA

Concerns are topic of Alzheimer’s group

The Alzheimer’s Association, Western New York, will host a family support group meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at DeGraff Adult Day Care, 82 Mead St., North Tonawanda.

Concerns caregivers may have regarding caregiving responsibilities will be discussed. Tips and suggestions will be shared that will offer support and assistance to those who are facing difficult caregiving situations.

Buchwald to perform at Gratwick Hose

A Halloween party with Terry Buchwald will take place from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday at the Gratwick Hose Company, 110 Ward Road, North Tonawanda.

At 6 p.m., the doors open. Tickets, $15 presale and $20 at the door, are available in the lounge or TerryBuchwaldTix@gmail.com. Beer and pop are included with the ticket.



Partners in Art extends gallery show

A two-week extension of the Buffalo Fine Arts League fall exhibition at Partners in Art Gallery, 74 Webster St., North Tonawanda is scheduled through Nov. 13.

The league encourages and promotes the recognition of Western New York artists who specialize in contemporary realism.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. The public is welcome. The gallery is handicap accessible.



Accordionist, clown to perform at DADC

Chuck Wolffer, a multi-talented performer, will entertain at 1:15 p.m. Thursday at DeGraff Adult Day Care, 82 Mead St., North Tonawanda.

Wolffer plays accordion and crank organ to selections from ethnic tunes to standards. He’s also known as “Honker the Clown,” having performed in the area.

The musical event is open to the public. Call 694-7662 to reserve a seat.



KEN-TON

Halloween safety topic at school

Hoover Elementary School, 199 Thorncliff Road, Town of Tonawanda, will host a Halloween safety program Friday in the community room for students in kindergarten through second-grade.

Three 25-minute sessions, one for each grade level, are scheduled.

KWHS class of ’80 plans reunion

Kenmore West High School class of 1980 has planned its 30-year reunion from 7 to 11 p.m. Aug. 14 at Crazy Jakes, 26 Webster St., North Tonawanda.

WHEATFIELD

Garden club schedules meeting

The Town of Wheatfield Garden Club will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Wheatfield Community Center on Church Road.

The program this month will focus on encouraging member participation in an autumn craft workshop. Visitors and guests are welcome.



AREA

NAMI support group plans meeting

The National Alliance on Mental Illness in Buffalo & Erie County support group will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran church, 4007 Main St., Amherst.

  • BULLETIN: Events published March 11, 2010 The Community Education and Referral program of the Mental Health Association in Niagara County Inc. will offer free support group facilitator training twice in March.

    Training will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday and 5:30 to 8 p.m. March 31 at the Wheatfield Community Center, 2790 Church Road, Wheatfield.

  • BULLETIN: Events published March 6, 2010 Gregory Kinal will present a program on “Impact of the ’50s” at the 7 p.m. meeting Wednesday of the Historical Society of the Tonawandas in the community room at city hall, Niagara Street. The program will feature a look at the 1950s in America with images of everyday life, fads, political figures, dress styles and celebrities.

  • BULLETIN: Events published March 5, 2010 Job applications for City of Tonawanda residents interested in seasonal work are available in the city clerk’s office at city hall.

    Positions include laborers, pool/playground attendants, lifeguards, park attendants and Gateway Harbor attendants.

    Anyone interested in a seasonal laborer position and available full time by April 15 should return completed applications to the clerk’s office by March 31.

    All other applications must be returned by April 15. All applicants must be residents of Tonawanda and at least 16 years old by June 1.

  • BULLETIN: Events published Feb. 26, 2010 “Princess and the Frog” will be the featured movie at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Riviera Theatre, 67 Webster St., North Tonawanda as part of the Saturday Family Film series sponsored by the YWCA Tonawandas and the theater.

    Tickets are $2. A $1 raffle ticket or a non-perishable food item for the YWCA food pantry buys a chance to win a movie poster.
