Free soup supper planned at OLC

The outreach program at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church will host a free soup supper, which includes all-you- can-eat soup, bread, butter and dessert, at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the church hall on Center Avenue at Oliver Street, North Tonawanda.

All are welcome. An outreach soup supper is scheduled the first Monday of every month until May.

Boys & Girls Club offers hockey clinic

The Gilmore Unit of the Boys & Girls Club is offering a floor hockey clinic with coach Jeff Smyth beginning the week of Dec. 7 in the gym at Gilmore Elementary School, 789 Gilmore Ave., North Tonawanda.

Monday evenings’ clinics will be for ages 5-8 and Thursdays for those ages 9-12 with two sessions offered each evening, 5:30 to 6:30 and 6:45 to 7:45 p.m.

The cost is $30 per child for the eight-week clinic. Applications are on the Web site at bgcnt.net, click on the Gilmore Unit, or may be filled out at the club from 3 to 6 p.m. weekdays.

Free morning preschool offered

Erie 1 BOCES Kenton Career & Technical Center, 151 Two Mile Creek Road, Town of Tonawanda, has openings in the preschool program for children ages 3 to 4.

The program, from 8 to 10 a.m., is free and takes place Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Preschool activities include art, music, story time, pre-math skills, science and social interaction.

The program doubles as a learning lab for high school seniors interested in early childhood development careers.

Tonawanda man stars in show

Tonawanda’s Bill Group is featured as the ship’s captain in Aurora Players production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s “HMS Pinafore” at the Roycroft Pavilion in Hamlin Park on South Grove Street, East Aurora.

The operetta opens today and runs through the first two weeks in November. Performances are 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday and Nov. 6, 7, 12, 13, and 14 with 2:30 p.m. matinees Saturday, and Nov. 7, 8, 14 and 15.

BULLETIN: Events published March 11, 2010 The Community Education and Referral program of the Mental Health Association in Niagara County Inc. will offer free support group facilitator training twice in March.

BULLETIN: Events published March 9, 2010 Tonawanda Free Methodist Church, 207 Grove St., City of Tonawanda, will host Soup & Devotions at 6 p.m. Wednesday with tomato corn soup featured.

Call 693-1199 if you plan to attend. Donation is $5 for adults, $4 for those age 60 and older, and free for children under age 10.

BULLETIN: Events published March 6, 2010 Gregory Kinal will present a program on “Impact of the ’50s” at the 7 p.m. meeting Wednesday of the Historical Society of the Tonawandas in the community room at city hall, Niagara Street. The program will feature a look at the 1950s in America with images of everyday life, fads, political figures, dress styles and celebrities.

BULLETIN: Events published March 5, 2010 Job applications for City of Tonawanda residents interested in seasonal work are available in the city clerk’s office at city hall.

Positions include laborers, pool/playground attendants, lifeguards, park attendants and Gateway Harbor attendants.

Anyone interested in a seasonal laborer position and available full time by April 15 should return completed applications to the clerk’s office by March 31.

All other applications must be returned by April 15. All applicants must be residents of Tonawanda and at least 16 years old by June 1.

A reception from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday will open the show. All are invited.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

BULLETIN: Events published Feb. 26, 2010 “Princess and the Frog” will be the featured movie at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Riviera Theatre, 67 Webster St., North Tonawanda as part of the Saturday Family Film series sponsored by the YWCA Tonawandas and the theater.

Tickets are $2. A $1 raffle ticket or a non-perishable food item for the YWCA food pantry buys a chance to win a movie poster.
