Deadline set for Thanksgiving boxes
The North Tonawanda Inter-Church Food Pantry reminds those wishing to sign up for Thanksgiving boxes that the deadline is between 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Friday at the pantry, 100 Ridge Road.
Thanksgiving boxes will be distributed from Monday through Nov. 20.
Donations will be received at the pantry until 12:30 p.m. Nov. 24. The food pantry will be closed Nov. 25 and re-open Nov. 30.
Library open on Veteran’s Day
The North Tonawanda Library, 505 Meadow Drive, will be open regular hours on Wednesday, Veteran’s Day.
All regular library services will be available.
Waterways focus of museum program
“Cruising America’s Waterways,” an award-winning PBS series, 90-minute video presentation, will be shown at 2 p.m. Saturday at the North Tonawanda History Museum, 54 Webster St.

Railroad will be topic of meeting
Tony Schill will present a look at railroading in Pennsylvania for members of the Niagara Frontier Chapter National Railway Historical Society at 8 p.m. Friday in the DeGraff Community Center, 139 Division St., North Tonawanda.
The public is invited to the program, “Four Tracks Across the Mountains 1834-2009.”
Service set at adult day care
John Lukasik, past commander of the Niagara County American Legion, will present a Veteran’s Day service at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at the DeGraff Adult Day Care, 82 Mead St., North Tonawanda.
The public is invited to the Veteran’s Day salute to veterans.

Retired Men to hear about Salvation Army
The Retired Men of the Tonawandas will meet at noon Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church, 149 Broad St., City of Tonawanda.
Captain Stephen Lyle will speak about the activities of the Salvation Army.
Bring a bag lunch, coffee and tea will be provided. All are invited.
Library hosts bedtime stories
Bedtime stories will be the focus of Family Fun Night at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the City of Tonawanda library, 333 Main St.
Children ages 3 to 7 and their families are invited.
On Nov. 19, the “Little Read” Jazzbaby will be featured.

PraiseSong! night features singers
“Cornucopia of Praise” is the theme of PraiseSong! at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Father Cotter at Blessed Sacrament Church, 263 Claremont Ave., Town of Tonawanda.
Mike Failla from Kingdom Bound Ministries and Nan Keller, leader of song at Harris Hill United Methodist Church in Clarence will perform.
A special free drawing for a basket of fruits and vegetables of the season will be featured. All are welcome.

Post 1451 plans flag retirement program
The American Legion Post 1451, 6525 Ward Road, Sanborn, will conduct a Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Wheatfield monument on Ward Road.
Following the ceremony, a flag retirement ceremony will take place at the legion hall. Anyone wishing to retire an American flag may bring it to the ceremony.
Chowder will be served following the ceremony.
Diet, exercise topic of Mended Heart group
Mended Hearts support group will meet at 1 p.m. Saturday in Room 503A at Buffalo Veterans Hospital on Bailey Avenue, Buffalo.
Kathy Hahl will discuss diet and exercise and their relation to heart disease. Guests are welcome.

Job applications for City of Tonawanda residents interested in seasonal work are available in the city clerk’s office at city hall.
Positions include laborers, pool/playground attendants, lifeguards, park attendants and Gateway Harbor attendants.
Anyone interested in a seasonal laborer position and available full time by April 15 should return completed applications to the clerk’s office by March 31.
All other applications must be returned by April 15. All applicants must be residents of Tonawanda and at least 16 years old by June 1. -
