NORTH TONAWANDA

Alzheimer’s focus of documentary video

The Alzheimer’s Association, Western New York, will host a family support group meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at DeGraff Adult Day Care, 82 Mead St., North Tonawanda.

“Momentum in Science,” part of the documentary series, “The Alzheimer’s Project,” will be presented by Nancy Marks, a caregiver for her father, who is suffering from mulit-infarct dementia, and former caregiver for her late mother, who suffered from Alzheimer’s.

This video explains the most recent and cutting-edge research and science behind the causes, treatments and prevention of the disease.

AARP to hear assistant district attorney

Assistant district attorney Heather DeCastro will be the guest speaker at the 1:30 p.m. meeting Tuesday of the North Tonawanda AARP Chapter 3526 at Sikora Post 1322, 950 Payne Ave., North Tonawanda.

Tickets for the annual Christmas party at Classics Five on Dec. 4 will be on sale.

Members with names starting with J, K and L are asked to bring a dessert. Canned goods, non-perishable and personal care items will be collected for the food pantry.



Program offered at adult day care

Exercise to Energize, a program focusing on the physical and emotional benefits of activity for all individuals, will be presented by Claudia J. Kurtzworth, public health educator from the Niagara County Department of Health, at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The program will be presented at DeGraff Adult Day Care, 82 Mead St., North Tonawanda.

Introduction to Photoshop set

Doug Hansgate of Advantage Media Productions will present a basic introduction to Photoshop from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the North Tonawanda Library, 505 Meadow Drive.

See a demonstration of before and after images using simple techniques. The workshop is free and open to the public. No advance registration is required.

A door prize will be offered for a $100 gift certificate for a photo session of choice with Advantage Media Productions.

TONAWANDA

Library hosts Family Fun night

The “Little Read” Jazzbaby will be the program for Family Fun Night at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the City of Tonawanda Public Library, 333 Main St.

The event is for children ages 3 to 7 and their families.

Registration is required and may be made in person or by calling 693-5043.



KEN-TON

KWHS bands present two concerts

The students in the Kenmore West High School band program will present their first two concerts of the school year at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday in the school auditorium.

On Tuesday, the Wind Ensemble will be featured playing music from a variety of composers, including Sousa, Rossini, Smetana and others.

Also at this concert, the Jazz Ensemble will perform a variety of musical styles including swing, rock and funk.

The two KWHS concert bands will take the stage Wednesday performing some contemporary band repertoire.

The stage band will also perform popular jazz selections to kick off the concert. All are welcome.

  • BULLETIN: Events published March 11, 2010 The Community Education and Referral program of the Mental Health Association in Niagara County Inc. will offer free support group facilitator training twice in March.

    Training will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday and 5:30 to 8 p.m. March 31 at the Wheatfield Community Center, 2790 Church Road, Wheatfield.

  • BULLETIN: Events published March 9, 2010 Tonawanda Free Methodist Church, 207 Grove St., City of Tonawanda, will host Soup & Devotions at 6 p.m. Wednesday with tomato corn soup featured.

    Call 693-1199 if you plan to attend. Donation is $5 for adults, $4 for those age 60 and older, and free for children under age 10.

  • BULLETIN: Events published March 6, 2010 Gregory Kinal will present a program on “Impact of the ’50s” at the 7 p.m. meeting Wednesday of the Historical Society of the Tonawandas in the community room at city hall, Niagara Street. The program will feature a look at the 1950s in America with images of everyday life, fads, political figures, dress styles and celebrities.

    All are invited.

  • BULLETIN: Events published March 5, 2010 Job applications for City of Tonawanda residents interested in seasonal work are available in the city clerk’s office at city hall.

    Positions include laborers, pool/playground attendants, lifeguards, park attendants and Gateway Harbor attendants.

    Anyone interested in a seasonal laborer position and available full time by April 15 should return completed applications to the clerk’s office by March 31.

    All other applications must be returned by April 15. All applicants must be residents of Tonawanda and at least 16 years old by June 1.

  • BULLETIN: Events published March 3, 2010 The Buffalo Society of Artists is bringing back its historic “Thumb Box Exhibition” which features small works by members of the society from Saturday through March 26 at Partners in Art Gallery, 74 Webster St., North Tonawanda.

    A reception from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday will open the show. All are invited.

    Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

  • BULLETIN: Events published Feb. 26, 2010 “Princess and the Frog” will be the featured movie at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Riviera Theatre, 67 Webster St., North Tonawanda as part of the Saturday Family Film series sponsored by the YWCA Tonawandas and the theater.

    Tickets are $2. A $1 raffle ticket or a non-perishable food item for the YWCA food pantry buys a chance to win a movie poster.
