Blood drive offers ‘Firehouse Chili’ to donors
Enjoy Firehouse Chili when you donate blood at a community blood drive from 2 and 7 p.m. Thursday at the City of Tonawanda Fire Headquarters, 44 William St.
First time blood donors are encouraged to come out and donate blood. To be eligible to donate, you must be 17 years-of-age or older and weigh 110 pounds or more.
To reserve a time slot, call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE. Walk-ins are welcome.
The meal includes Chief Stuart’s fire-house chili, Anne’s sausage and beef recipe and Stacy’s famous bean-less chili.
AARP plan holiday party at meeting
Tonawanda AARP Chapter 4574 will meet at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the VFW on Elgin Street, City of Tonawanda.
Final plans for the Christmas party on Dec. 10 will be discussed. Payment must be made at this meeting.
Lunch committee members are Ruth Tamberlin, Mary Lashaway, Peggy Marohn, Elena Horwitz, Rita Brompton and Rita Daniels.
Members are asked to bring items for the food pantry and small toys, hats and mittens for the needy.

Family Fun Day offers games, information
A National Family Fun Day, with games, face painting, fire department representatives, food, balloons and information on veterans’ services will take place from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Sikora American Legion Post, 950 Payne Ave., North Tonawanda.
The event is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary of Sikora Post.
Admission is a non-perishable food item for the North Tonawanda Food Pantry.
NTHS classes of ’39-’44 plan dinner
Members of the North Tonawanda High School classes of 1939 to 1944 are invited to a dinner at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Pane’s Restaurant, 984 Payne Ave., North Tonawanda.

Empire Safety Council will offer at defensive driving course from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Allstate, 834 Nash Road, North Tonawanda.

Concert offers traditional state songs
The Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society will present a family-friendly concert of traditional state songs by Dave Ruch at 2 p.m. Saturday at the museum, 25 Nottingham Court at Elmwood Avenue, Buffalo.
The event is included in regular museum admission, free for members and children age 6 and under; $2.50 ages 7 to 12; $4 students and seniors; $6 adults.

Job applications for City of Tonawanda residents interested in seasonal work are available in the city clerk’s office at city hall.
Positions include laborers, pool/playground attendants, lifeguards, park attendants and Gateway Harbor attendants.
Anyone interested in a seasonal laborer position and available full time by April 15 should return completed applications to the clerk’s office by March 31.
All other applications must be returned by April 15. All applicants must be residents of Tonawanda and at least 16 years old by June 1. -
